#PrepWithPurpose - July 19, 2016: Grayson Simmons

For backstory on what #PrepWithPurpose is all about please read the blog entry and/or Instagram Post.

Hello Friends,

I hate that there was a day or two that I had to skip Prep With Purpose. But I didn't have any requests sent in (that were complete enough to compile a post) and so I had no choice but to put it on hold. So PLEASE .. if you see, hear, know, run across ANYTHING you think would fit in with PREP WITH PURPOSE .. please contact me!

Anytime I don't have someone and skip a day .. I'm either praying for a former person, for our country, something I've seen on the news, etc. This little project has become part of my everyday routine. It's become so much a part of me that that I feel like I can't even fully workout without having someone else to lift up/for! I'd say that is a good habit to have :)

Sunday I did a pretty short upper body workout in the hotel gym. I was going on no sleep and my body ached after spending SO MUCH time on stage posing (much different than an amateur show.)
While lifting .. I just sort of prayed for every athlete that had competed over the weekend. Many went home victorious and others maybe had mixed emotions after the show. It can be hard for seasoned competitors to accept a "loss" .. but I know for many new competitors .. or those that have not been knocked down with a loss .. it can be a really rough day. So I prayed for everyone that graced that stage. I prayed that the winners are humble. I prayed that they are grateful and use the win for some good. I prayed that everyone else realize that they are winners for simply competing and that a loss does NOT define them, their physique, the hard work they put in, etc. If you saw my socials you know I walked away with an 8th place finish at my Pro Debut. Certainly a different feeling than walking away with numerous 1st place wins and earning my Pro Card at my last show .. but I still felt great. I was Top 10 in my very first PRO show! That is a really great achievement!! I brought a package that I am confident a good majority of IFBB judges would have rewarded higher (this is a very subjective sport) and I'm happy with my look/posing. More than that .. I am just thrilled I am even able to step on a Pro stage!! It still seems so surreal that I am an IFBB PRO!!! It just wasn't "my show" to win and that is okay! On to the next (more on that coming soon.)

On Monday I only did sprints. I felt really discouraged when I woke up because I once again didn't have anyone to lift up/for. I was feeling un-motivated and even more stiff/sore than Sunday!! So I had to do something. I had to dig deep. I decided after yet another police shooting, all the political hate going on, etc., that I'd pray for our Country in general ... God knows we need it! So as I stared at the flag flying half staff on the field I run my sprints .. I prayed for everyone. We all live in some pretty scary times right now.

Late yesterday evening I finally had a couple requests come in. So we can continue Prep With Purpose today!! And it really sounds as if today's person could use some URGENT and ongoing prayer!

Prep With Purpose - July 19th: Grayson Simmons

Today we are lifting up and for a young man - Grayson Simmons. I don't know a lot about Grayson. The request was sent to me by a social media friend. I was given a Care Bridge page to visit and was able to put the pieces together as best as I could. All I know is that Grayson has been in the hospital fighting for his life for almost an entire month now after a single car crash in Richmond, VA on June 29th.

He suffered a traumatic brain injury as well as multiple broken bones - pelvis, ribs, scapula, clavicle and jaw. He also had two collapsed lunges. Doctors first concern was his head trauma. At first they were unable to control the swelling of his brain solely using medication, so Grayson underwent a crainectomy on Monday, July 4th. He has been on a ventilator his entire stay and remained pretty heavily sedated (not sure of the most recent update on this.) I did see one post where he opened his eyes and has had some movement. He recovered enough to address the broken bones and had surgery this past Friday. The most recent update was on the 17th .. and it said he was scheduled to have surgery again early this week. That is all I know for now! But it certainly sounds like Grayson is in pretty rough shape and could use a TON of prayers!

The page also said Graysons father came home and slept in his bed for the first time since the accident. And another layer to this story is that his sister was suppose to get married the weekend following the accident, but given the critical situation, they've had to postpone the nuptials.

We don't need to know any other details to know that Grayson obviously has a VERY long road of recovery ahead of him and it is obviously also affecting every member of his family. So today I will LIFT UP and FOR Grayson Simmons and his family. I hope you join me and I hope they feel the love!

XoXo
Stacy

I hope you are joining me on this PREP WITH PURPOSE journey! If you are ... please post/share and use the hashtag #PrepWithPurpose! Let's get a huge prayer chain going and in the process maybe make the sport of bodybuilding less about "me, me, me" and a little more about helping others! Our motivation doesn't have to come from ONLY ourselves!

If you know anyone that needs urgent or ongoing prayer for any physical reason please email me all the information and a picture (or a few) to simplystacyfitness@yahoo.com.
