#PrepWithPurpose - July 21, 2016: Owen's SuperHero Heart

For backstory on what #PrepWithPurpose is all about please read the blog entry and/or Instagram Post.

Hey Friends,

Yesterday I did something I've never done in the history of my competition career. I did THREE training sessions in ONE day. Yes .. T H R E E in ONE day!!

I know to some competitors this is "the norm" .. but not me! I try to train as SMART as I can at ALL times... so this is something I'd never normally do. I don't even do two-a-days unless I HAVE to for some reason (usually because of the Vegas heat or traveling.) But yesterday it was a combo of a couple of things. I had the chance to train with a guy that I've been a "fan" of for years. He has some VERY unique glute training styles and happened to be in Vegas this week! So I snagged some one-on-one time with him!! Since I'm traveling to a wedding this weekend and competed last weekend .. I'm WAY behind on my lifting/cardio schedule. So doubling up has been needed to get it all done. I could have just doubled up I guess .... but I pulled a triple simply because I was hungry. ha. I did sprints in the morning, trained with Cem (the trainer) in the early afternoon and while I could have stayed and finished my workout after we were done .. I wanted to eat .. so I decided to go home and then head back to the gym late in the evening (my normal training time) to get my scheduled leg day in. To say I'm exhausted is an understatement! But hey ... at least Renee got LOTS of lifting up and for yesterday! If you missed her story ... please go check it out. She had surgery yesterday so is in need of prayer NOW!

Today's PREP WITH PURPOSE is one that will tug at your heart. In fact .. it all centers around the heart of a 4 year old little girl that for the past three years has been beating and keeping another little boy alive. But now ... this little boy finds the heart failing and is once again on a transplant list.  Grab tissue .. this is a rough one. But so worthy of us lifting up and for everyone involved.

Prep With Purpose - July 21, 2016: Owen Simmons

On July 17th 2013 one family said goodbye to their little princess - Aly Rose DeFur - while another family was crying different tears. Their son Owen was finally going to have a healthy heart.
After 327 days of waiting ... a perfect match had been found.

One heart meant for two perfect children.... so bitterly sweet.

I wish that the story ended here. I wish I could tell you that Owen is healthy and little Aly's heart beats on inside him without skipping a beat....but I got a message from Aly's father (who is a friend of mine on FB) that the heart has started to "act up" and little Owen is once again on a transplant list.

By looking at Owen's moms blog .. it seems as if the heart started failing back in May and he has been in the hospital with many ups and downs since then. Owen is currently on a waiting list ... hoping for yet another heart ... another chance at life.

This is heartbreaking on both ends. Obviously for little Owen and his family .. but also for Aly's family. Their little girl has been able to "live on" inside someone else. I can't imagine that feeling. But I would think after the initial sadness, shock, etc. - knowing that has had to provide a sense of peace. But now .. doctors say that her heart is going to either stop working .. or be replaced with one that will hopefully work for little Owen (obviously we are praying for the latter.)

Aly's father told me they are thankful that they have had these "extra years" and are praying that there will be more with the healing power of God. So we pray for a miracle. We pray that Aly's heart somehow continues to beat inside Owen .. that her little spirit can continue to live within him .. but if not we pray that Owen quickly find another heart.

A go fund me page has been set up for the family. I can not imagine the financial stress of essentially LIVING in a hospital for so many months. As I've said with every Go Fund Me page .. if I don't know the family I can't vouch for them needing the funds. But I still pass it on.

The family has a BLOG and Owen also has his own FACEBOOK PAGE for anyone that wants to follow updates.

Today is a cardio only day for me .. but I will sprint harder than I ever have in honor of Aly and for little Owen.

In the words of his mom ... Life is short, live it well.

I will .... I certainly will.

XoXo
Stacy

I hope you are joining me on this PREP WITH PURPOSE journey! If you are ... please post/share and use the hashtag #PrepWithPurpose! Let's get a huge prayer chain going and in the process maybe make the sport of bodybuilding less about "me, me, me" and a little more about helping others! Our motivation doesn't have to come from ONLY ourselves!

If you know anyone that needs urgent or ongoing prayer for any physical reason please email me all the information and a picture (or a few) to simplystacyfitness@yahoo.com.
